Not much to say... I haven't seen anything strange in the woods since the other day. Well, almost true, but more on that in a moment. I'd say I was mistaken, but Lehu saw Him too, even if we didn't talk about it afterwards. I can't help but think it had something to do with Lullaby and what she did to Dollmaker afterwards. I'm glad Lullaby is taking the initiative to curb Dollmaker. I'd have shut the little monster away in a box and buried her by now. There's still the option of removing the bean and turning her into a necklace though.....
Now the weird thing happened yesterday, and I haven't even spoken to Shady about it. I know Prosper and this Road Runner and even Dodgy are still out there. I don't think this was any of them. Not their style, you could say. In fact, I would almost say this was Wildman's work, but we all know he's dead. Eaten. And besides, he was never this... articulate.
Between me and the birds, the blueberries are almost picked out closer to the mansion. There are the fruit trees, but I have a weakness for blueberries. So I've been going farther and farther afield. I found a good patch the other day, a sunny, friendly patch.
That hadn't changed when I went back, but.... I don't know how to describe how the clearing felt. And right in the middle, a "message" of twigs. I almost didn't notice it, but I tripped on something and chanced to look down.
You've seen the notebooks by now, the scribbled messages that make no sense. Now imagine something like that, spread over several feet and fashioned from woodsy debris. I picked out phrases like "not safe" and "come home" along with arrows pointing deeper into the woods.
Needless to say, we haven't had blueberries since then. In fact, I haven't left the safety of the mansion or garden at all. There's plenty to keep me occupied at the house. Mr Crowley and Lehu left Wednesday afternoon, but there's still plenty of work left to be done.
The warnings...From a friend or from a foe? What do you think? Be safe out there.
ReplyDeleteI don't know. Something had been there because the trees were all kinds of agitated. I've always felt at home in the trees, more so than in cities. So maybe that's why the message was "come home" instead of "go home" with the arrows pointing deeper into the woods? I really don't know.
ReplyDeleteMaybe..Or perhaps it is something much more sinister. With the apparent increase in things falling apart recently..It doesn't sit well with me. Of course, that may just be the massive headache talking.
ReplyDeleteBelieve me... I've been watching the treeline like a hawk whenever I go outside. Whatever was meant by the message, I am not going to take them up on their "offer" of "coming home." I refuse to be intimidated. This is a safe place. The only way they're going to get at us is if we do something stupid like letting them rattle us into running.
